Weld-Neck flanges or welding-neck flanges can be differentiated from all other types of flange by their long neck. The weld neck flange is so named because its neck part of the flange is welded to the end of a piping system. Weld neck flange is designed to transfer stress to the pipe in the purpose of reducing high stress concentrations at the base of the flange. Normally Weld neck flange is expensive because welding neck flange use more material than other flanges due to it's long neck.
Weld Neck Flange have a long tapered hub and are mostly used for high pressure applications and severe service conditions. There are four most common types of facings for weld neck flanges: raised face (most common), flat face, Tenon & groove face, ring type joint (RTJ). When ordering for a weld neck flange, it is important to specify the schedule pipe that will be used for. This is because the inside diameter of the weld neck flange must match the inside diameter of your pipe. The butt-welding joint that weld neck flange has with the pipe and along with the tapered hub will make this weld neck flange very resistant to dishing and a very sturdy connection. These weld neck flanges are ideal for extreme fluctuations of temperature and in environments where there may be a lot of bending and handling of the weld neck flange. For larger diameter weld neck flange, Tongyang can make it in series A and B according to ANSI B 16.47.
